Bad Bill Bob's Commentary on LC0584
Presently in Montana (as defined in our Consitution) the legislature
meets for 90 days on odd years. There has always been a move
by some to change that to every year. Most attempts are related to
changing the 90 days every two years to 90 days OVER two years. This
would create a 30 day session on year, and a 60 day session the next.
The idea is to dedicate the 30 day session to budget issues, and the 60 day
session to the rest.
To serve in Helena is difficult enough every two years. To set up a system
that would require private citizens to take 1-2 months out of their lives every
year would reduce the number of people able to serve. The legislature needs
to simply restrict their business to what can be accomplished in one
90 day session.
