The first question that you should ask your local planning office is:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         
"Where are the WUI boundaries?" You may be surprised to see how much of                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       
your county this area covers.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              
This bill request is to develop new laws in Montana that would require                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        
building permits and inspections and fees for any structure built in                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          
the WUI area. This is regardless of whether your county has adopted                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           
building permits.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              
Already folks building homes anywhere in MT are required to get an                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            
electrical and plumbing permit (if out of the city, then the permit is from the                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               
state). This bill would require a permit for the complete structure.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              
The passage of this bill will be a dramatic change to current building permit                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 
laws.
